What is the role?

We are looking for a Senior Legal Counsel based in Hamburg or Berlin to work with our Investments and Portfolio teams.

This is a hands-on in-house role where you will work with a diverse and highly skilled team and will report directly to the General Counsel. You will develop a wide range of skillsets that will make you a renewable energy legal specialist across the entire life cycle; from supporting the Investments team in evaluating and acquiring projects to supporting the Portfolio teams to develop, construct and operate the projects.

Essential Responsibilities

Provision of legal support in relation to your renewable projects in Germany from evaluation and acquisition through to construction and operations and across a variety of legal practice areas covering the entire project life cycle; M&A, finance, commercial contracts, public law, regulatory, disputes etc.

Reviewing and negotiating a range of project/commercials contracts, including power purchase agreements, land lease agreements, consultancy agreements, joint venture agreements and financing agreements

Building strong working relationships with internal stakeholders through provision of a high level of service and prompt, practical and commercially focussed advice

Advising on company law, corporate governance, and legal compliance activities for our entities in Germany

Advising on a wide range of legal matters affecting the business operations in Germany

Qualifications / Requirements

4+ years post qualifying experience in the renewable energy sector in Germany, whether in-house at a leading energy company or in a tier 1 transactional practice area

Strong technical legal skills, combined with an ability to take a strategic, pragmatic and commercial view

Strong communication skills with ability to build ‘trusted adviser’ relationship

Proven track record of significant contribution to the successful completion of numerous transactions or projects

Fluency in German and English (written and oral)

Desired Characteristics

Familiarity with the public law aspects of renewable energy development, including planning and permitting aspects

Fluency in other European languages

A passion for the renewable energy sector and our mission

Extensive legal network in Germany covering all aspects of the renewable project cycle

A proactive and driven attitude to solving legal problems and getting things done
